Four tips for managing your business cellphone

Young Business woman speaking mobile phoneWhat would you do without your cellphone? It’s likely you’d feel as lost as a fish out of water. Cellular technology is your umbilical cord to … well, just about everything in your world! Are you maximizing that vital communication link to the fullest extent? Here are some tips for making that smartphone a whole lot smarter.

  1. Connect your phone to the cloud. Backing up your phone data to the cloud will save you tons of grief should your phone suffer damage or be stolen. You’ll also be able to access files and data while on the fly through Microsoft’s OneDrive, for example. There are also many other cloud-based services available. Choose the one that best fits your individual situation and preferences.
  2. Get into the habit of updating your apps frequently. Set up automatic reminders, if you need them. Developers are constantly updating apps to deal with bugs that may pop up. When you install a new app or update one you already have, choose settings that will alert you when an updated app is available for you to download.
  3. Change your password once a month. Do it more frequently if you have a mobile wallet. Most hackers are after money, but some just like a challenge. In either case, protect sensitive data that’s on your phone through a passcode.
  4. Practice proper phone etiquette. Who wants to endure the ear-tingling gossip that fills the air with loud guffaws and distracting conversation? If you are nearby others, excuse yourself briefly and find a secluded spot to chat. You never know who may be listening in on your conversation. Corporate spies should not be taken lightly. So exercise discretion.
